Christian Men’s Breakfast, in Davie, Florida

Question: What do you discuss?
Answer: We generally spend a brief time in prayer. We discuss a short passage of scripture and then have a structured discussion on an issue facing Christian men. The format is informal. We do stray off topic at times, to address the needs of the men in attendance, but we make an effort to keep on the general subject matter for the week.

Question: Is this an advanced, intermediate, or beginners discussion group?
Answer: Actually, it’s not really a discussion group, so there is no “difficulty level.” Some of the men who have attended are new in their faith. Others are mature Christians. If you are a Christian man, you are welcome to attend.

Question: How do I get invited to the breakfast group?
Answer: If you are interested in attending, email the discussion leader, Tom Truex, by using the CONTACT tab at the top of every page.

Question: Are there study materials or homework?
Answer: No. There is a handout provided every week. Bringing your own Bible is recommended, but not required.

Question: Is there a cost to attend?
Answer: No, other than the cost of your breakfast, and a tip. Since we are meeting in a restaurant, everyone is strongly encouraged to order breakfast and leave a tip.

Question: How and when did this breakfast group get started?
Answer: Rev. Gregory S. Elkins, of Davie United Methodist Church started a Men’s Breakfast Bible study group in the mid 1990’s. When Rev. Elkins passed away unexpectedly, one of the members of that group reformed a smaller group. Four of us in that original group met for several years in the late 1990’s. The original leader of the group hasn’t met with us for a number of years. Another fellow moved out of state, although I still keep in touch with him. But two of the original four members of the breakfast group have been meeting most of the time since the late 1990’s. The group has changed and met at a number of different restaurants in or near Davie, Florida, over the years. With the exception of a few breaks here and there, we’ve met pretty much consistently during that time. We’ve met with men from a fair number of various Christian backgrounds, including Roman Catholics, “non-denominational”, Baptist, completed Jews, and Assemblies of God. Probably lots of other denominations, if I had ever kept track.

Question: Do I have to be a man to attend the breakfast group?
Answer: Yes.

Question: Are the questions in these “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) REALLY frequently asked?
Answer: No.
