New FREE replacement for MS Word

No, I am not selling anything. I know a good product when I see it. You might be aware that OpenOffice has long been a credible FREE replacement for Microsoft Word©. Now there is a new office suite that merits consideration: LibreOffice. It is another FREE1 productivity suite that includes the six standard applications: Writer, Calc, Base, Impress, Calc, and Draw. Unlike Microsoft Word©, LibreOffice 3.3 is cross-platform–there are versions available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux.

I have been using LibreOffice 3.3 on my computer, at work (Linux, of course), for a couple of weeks. I highly recommend it. There’s a great article about LibreOffice 3.3 in the online version of Linux Magazine.

Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos is PRO LIFE Candidate for US Senate

Senator Mike Haridopolos
Recently I attended a community forum at which Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos was the featured speaker. He spoke about his goals as the leader of the Florida Senate to get Florida back to work. He also addressed his plans to run against US Senator Bill Nelson. I asked Senator Haridopolos where he stood on the right to life. Senator Haridopolos responded with a pretty forceful explanation as to his strong PRO LIFE position. By comparison, Senator Bill Nelson, is firmly in the PRO ABORTION camp, having “earned” a 100% rating from the radical pro abortion group, NARAL Pro-Choice America. 1

Here is my advice to everyone in the PRO LIFE movement: Always ask your elected officials where they stand on the RIGHT TO LIFE, every chance you get. This serves several purposes:

  1. If the person is PRO ABORTION, their response helps you determine who to NOT VOTE for;
  2. If the person is PRO LIFE, your question confirms to him/her that PRO LIFE VOTERS are active and concerned;
  3. If the person avoids taking a position, you can safely assume they will not take a position when it counts–that is, when it is time to stand up for life!

OLD TESTAMENT READINGS: Exodus 21:22-33:23

Themes and stories: God gives Moses more laws. Some of the laws deal with stealing, carelessness or damaging the property of another. Then there’s the rule about having to to pay the bride-price for enticing a virgin who is not betrothed, to have sex with you. The bride price is paid to the father. Sounds like an odd rule by today’s standards. You might even be inclined to object on the ground that the woman is dealt with as little more than property. But consider the position of the virgin who had been “enticed.” Her chances of being married to another, were now greatly diminished, and society held no place for a single woman. Adam Clarke says:

This was an exceedingly wise and humane law, and must have operated powerfully against seduction and fornication; because the person who might feel inclined to take the advantage of a young woman knew that he must marry her, and give her a dowry, if her parents consented; and if they did not consent that their daughter should wed her seducer, in this case he was obliged to give her the full dowry which could have been demanded had she been still a virgin.

God gives laws letting the land rest every seven years. God instructs the Israelites to maintain three annual feasts: Feast of the Unleavened Bread, Feast of Harvest; and Feast of Ingathering. The Israelites promised to follow all of God’s laws. Continue reading “One Year Bible Challenge, Week 6”

  1. The notes, summaries and points on this page are intended as bookmarks of important matters which are covered in this week’s readings. They are not intended as complete summaries of readings. Please forgive me if some of my summaries are not 100% on point. Read the manual–i.e. Bible–so that you will get a more clear understanding of the material. Thank you.
