Discussion Questions:
Old Testament

  • During the time of the Judges, the Israelites continued in their cycle of turning from God, suffering the consequences of rebellion; and finally returning to God. Why did the Israelites behave this way? Why did God continue to forgive their serious sins?
  • What is the significance of the story of Ehud and Eglon, king of Moab? Why does the Bible mention that Ehud was left handed? Judges 3:12-30.
  • Was it wrong for Gideon to test God with the wet and dry fleece? Judges 6:36-40.

New Testament

  • Jesus was tried during the day. The crowd shouted to crucify him during the day. And Jesus was crucified in a public place during daylight. So why did the Jewish Leaders have Jesus arrested at night?
  • After the Last Supper, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” Was Peter really ready? Luke 22:33.

Discussion Questions:
Old Testament

  1. What was the offense committed by Moses which resulted in God banning him from leading the people into the promised land? Why did God consider Moses’ actions so serious? Numbers 20:1-12.
  2. In Numbers 21:6 the people again complained to Moses. Why did they keep complaining, notwithstanding all Moses (and God) had done for them? Was God’s punishment (the poisonous snakes) too harsh?

New Testament

  1. Jesus tells his disciples what signs to expect. Are we to expect to see these same signs today? Mark 16:14-18.
  2. What do we know about John the Baptist? How was his message and ministry different than that of Jesus? Read John 3:1-18

Old Testament

  1. Numbers 5:11-31 describes a complicated procedure to deal with the situation in which a jealous husband suspected his wife of adultery, but had no proof. If there was no proof, why is the matter even considered?
  2. Why did the Israelites refuse to go into the land of Canaan after Caleb and the other spies brought back their report?

New Testament

  1. When Jesus was taken to be crucified, “they brought him to the place called Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, ‘The place of a skull.’ They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn’t take it.” Why was Jesus offered this drink, and why did He refuse it? Mark 15:22
  2. Why did Jesus say, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is, being interpreted, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?“
