Discussion Questions:
Old Testament

  1. In Genesis 19:8, Lot offered his two daughters to the mob in place of the two angels. What was Lot thinking in order to make such an offer? Read Genesis 19:1-26.
  2. Why doesn’t the Bible seem to condemn or punish the great sin of Lot’s daughters. Did Lot share any part in this sin? Genesis 19:30-38.
  3. Did Rebekah have a choice in going with Abraham’s servant to marry Isaac?. Why was the servant is such a hurry to go home? Read Genesis 24:51-57.
  4. Why did Jacob have to work 7 years in order to marry Rachel (Genesis 29:16-18)? His father did not have to work for his bride, Rebekah.
  5. Jacob’s two wives,1 and each of their servants had children with Jacob. Read Genesis 29:31-30:24. Was it a sin for him to have multiple wives, and to have children with women who were not his wives? See also 1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:6.

New Testament

  1. According to Matthew 6:19-21; and 6:25-34 is it a sin to plan for your future? Can you take your planning too far?
  2. Matthew 7:1 says “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” But aren’t Christians called on to make judgments about lots of things about other people? Is it OK to judge on some things? If so, what?
  3. A disciple of Jesus wanted to bury his dead father before he followed Jesus. Jesus told him to follow Him (Jesus) and “Leave the dead to bury their own dead.” Does this response seem harsh? Could you imagine someone today addressing a fellow believer in this manner? Matthew 8:19-22
