Discussion Questions:
Old Testament

  1. Why did Uzzah get the death penalty by God for putting out his hand to steady the Ark? Wasn’t it a good thing to prevent the Ark from tipping into the dirt? 1 Chronicles 13:9-10
  2. 2 Chronicles apparently mentions the same time as when David commits adultery with Bathsheba. Why is the story omitted in this Book of the Bible? Chronicles 20:1; 2 Samuel 11:1-5.

New Testament

  1. What is the significance of Paul’s Shipwreck? Acts 27.
  2. In Romans, Paul denounces certain sins in very strong terms. Is this just Paul’s opinion, and is it merely a product of his times? Romans 1:26-32.

Old Testament

  1. Why was it a sin for David to take the census?
  2. 1 Kings 4:26 says, “Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.” Is this the correct number of horses, and was Solomon breaking the prohibition on the king “multiplying horses” found in Deuteronomy 17:16?

New Testament

  1. Ananias, and his wife, Sapphira, both dropped dead when confronted with the fact that they held back part of the profit from the sale of their property. Why was their punishment so severe? Acts 5:1-11.
  2. What was the argument set out by the Pharisee named Gamaliel in Acts 5:38-39 as to why the religious leaders should leave Peter and the apostles alone?

Old Testament

  1. In 1 Samuel 31:1-7, Saul and his armor-bearer were overtaken by their enemies in battle, and each fell on his own sword to kill himself. Did the armor-bearer act correctly when he refused Saul’s order to kill him. Are these death’s properly called “suicide?” How do they compare to the death of Samson in Judges 16:30?
  2. God himself called David “a man after his own heart.” 1 Samuel 13:14. How do we reconcile God’s proclamation with the terrible sins committed by David?

New Testament

  1. What was the significance of the chief priests’ desire to kill Lazarus, who had been raised from the dead? John 12:9-11.
  2. Why was it that most of the people did not believe in Jesus, even though he had performed so many miracles right before them? John 12:37-43.
